S(t)ill Life:  The Roots of Human Existence

This photography series highlights the importance of restoring the human and plant bond in order to cease further destruction and prevent plant extinction. The plants have been organised to portray the cyclical notion of life and to assist the audience with recognising each plant as a living creature who experience life and death rather than inanimate objects and/or decorations. A blue backdrop has been employed to enhance the association of peace and tranquility with plants. In the imagery, each plant is situated in a bottle to signify the human and plant disconnection as they are no longer intertwined with nature and are instead confined to a man-made bottle. I chose to place the plants in different bottles to represent the plants’ individuality. The transparency of each bottle allows the audience to recognise these plants as transient beings by observing the unique development and individuality of these plants’ roots. This will assist with the shift of the human mindset from objectifying plants, to accepting that they are an integral aspect of human existence.
